The “detention centre” (read: prison) in Pagani, Mytilene, is where most of the undocumented migrants are locked up upon their arrival at the island of Mytilene, in NE Greece. Shutting down the camp was one of the main demands of the NoBorders camp that took place in Mytilene in August.
A few hours ago (at around 4pm local time), migrant detainees in the camp started an uprising, setting fires in the courtyard and beginning to demolish the centre’s exterior fence.
People in solidarity have already arrived at the scene. So have local media, as well as units of the special police force (OPKE).
